I had a discussion with Kerry today about our iPad vs. TEGA tablet comparison at last Thursday's NSCM. I came to the conclusion that the 'i' prefix on Apple products for me means "instant". On the iPod, it's instant music. On the iPhone, it's instant access to web applications.

On the iPad, it's instant access to messaging and browsing information. If I need to read, send, post or file a document or spreadsheet that I couldn't see due to the small form factor on my iPhone. I could do so 'instantly' without having to boot up the laptop (and wait). I'd honestly get frustrated with a Windows-based tablet for this activity.

I'm finding that I need to do more and more tasks instantly – so it's the iPad for me!

For such a dynamic traveler as yourself this could be a great device for you. Portable, versatile and easy to jot down notes on or use advanced software just like a laptop but the size of a kindle or iPad. Amazing insight from your son who works for Apple to, thanks for sharing that with us.

I like the sound of this Tony — the jury is still out on the iPad for me, as it was with the Kindle. While I like to have up to date technology, experience has taught me to wait it out. I'm a wait and see consumer.

My son who works for Apple, road tested an iPad a couple of weeks ago. His verdict…? It's nothing more than an oversized iPhone.
